Location is everything
When John Denver wrote and sang his famous ballad “Rocky Mountain High”, he was painting a picture from the back porch of our ranch house. The Ghost River Ranch is located in So. Colorado, just four County Road miles east of Interstate 25 at Exit 64. A short fifteen miles to our west lie one million acres of National Forest. Our 6,000-acre ranch has been divided into 150 Lots of 35 acres or more. Each property comes with year-round road maintenance and electricity. If you are looking for privacy, easy access, views, wildlife and fun, you won’t be disappointed.
The Ghost River Ranch rests in the Huerfano River Valley between three heavily treed Mesas. Our elevation is around 5,000 feet at the river to 5,800 feet on top of the Mesa. The ranch has elk, deer, antelope and other wildlife. We have very little snow or winter. The Wet Mountains, the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, and the Spanish Peaks are mountain views to silence the mind.
The Old West is Disappearing!
Have you ever seen a red dawn sunrise cast it’s light upon the peaks of the Rocky Mountains or watched the clouds turn pink and gold at sunset? You can expect to begin and end every day like that at the Ghost River Ranch. Clear blue skies cover Southern Colorado 300 days of the year here. Every now and then we experience nature’s seasons in the gentle summer rain or a light winter snow but most of the year, it’s clear and just plain peaceful. A refuge like this is what’s missing in our busy lives today and the opportunity to own it continues to disappear as well.
The old ghost town of Lascar is located in the middle of our ranch. A scene from just one of many chapters in the history of this great country. Back in time, Native Americans hunted deer and elk up and down the Huerfano River and it’s adjoining streams leaving arrow heads behind them for the finding. Listen closely and the winds will echo the sounds of wagon wheels carrying the westward bound pioneers of the past.
